Mount Timpanogos 7/22/09 : A day hike to Mount Timpanogos, which is the second highest mountain in Utah's Wasatch Range and rises to an elevation of 11,749 feet above sea level. With 5,269 feet of topographic prominence, Timpanogos is the 47th-most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States (One of the 57 Ultra-Prominent Peaks). Timp is my 17th Ultra-Prominent Peak. I hiked up to Timp via the Timpanokee trail. The hike was about 14 miles round-trip with 4600' elevation gain. I didn't take many photos on the way up, so it took me 4 hours and 15 minutes to get to the summit from the trailhead. On the way down I took tons of photos, so it took me just as long to hike down as to hike up.

Timpanogos Cave, Utah 7/21/09 : Timpanogos Cave National Monument is located in the Wasatch Mountains. The cave system features an abundance of helictites, beautiful coloration, fault-controlled passages, and an alpine setting. The cave is accessed by hiking up a 1 1/2-mile-paved trail, which rises 1,160 ft to an elevation of 6,730 feet above sea level. The views of the American Fork Canyon are really nice along the trail to the cave entrance.

Kings Peak - Utah's Highpoint 7/19-7/20/09 : A 2-day trip to King's Peak. Kings Peak is the highest peak in the state of Utah, with an elevation of 13,528 feet. It lies just south of the spine of the central Uinta Mountains. I took the standard route along Henrys Fork - the trek to Kings Peak was about 28 miles with 4700' elevation gain. It was very similar in difficulty to my Mount Lyell climb in July of 2008. With 6,348 feet of topographical prominence, Kings Peak is the 19th-most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States (One of the 57 Ultra-Prominent Peaks).
