A day hike to Jacumba Mountain (4512') from Mortero Palms Wash in Anza-Borrego State Park. The hike starts at about 2000 feet above sea leve and is about 2.5 miles each way; so a round-trip of 5 miles with 2500 to 2600 feet elevation gain. It took me 5.5 hours to do the hike.
Looking back after the canyon split in two directions. I took a right turn in anticipation that it would bring me to the gentle area at 2600 feet elevation. The trailhead is at about 2000 feet above sea level, so the first 600 feet of gain are in the canyon.
