I followed the John Muir Trail southerly from Tuolumne Meadow for about 11.5 miles to not too far before Donahue Pass and camped at about 10,550'. The next day it was xcountry to Mount Lyell and back to camp before heading back out to Tuolumne Meadow via the John Muir Trail. Patchy snow began just after where I camped and it I was on snow all the time from about 11,000' to near the Lyell/McClure Saddle. I think the trek to Mount Lyell was about 2.5 miles from camp; so about a 28 mile(round-trip)/4800' gain weekend
