Cottonwood Pass to Guyot Creek and Mount Chamberlin 08/23/2019-08/25/2019
A 3-day backpacking trip in the southern High Sierra. A total of 37 miles with 7,800' gain split over the three days. The first day was a long haul from Horseshoe Meadows to Cottonwood Pass and then along the PCT to Guyot Creek (15 miles 2,800' elevation gain). The second day I started out from my camp near Guyot Creek and climbed Mount Chamberlin (6.5 miles round trip with 2,750' gain). When I got back to camp from Chamberlin I had time to pack up and trek back out part of the way along the PCT. Day 2 was about 10 miles with 3,600' gain. Day 3 was the easiest with about 12 miles and just 1,400' gain the rest of the way back out along the PCT to Cottonwood Pass and back down to Horseshoe Meadows. The weather was warm and fires to the south created smoky skies in the afternoons, but still a nice trip. My route up Chamberlin was relatively easy - Mostly Class 1 with just a bit of Class 2 and the sand really wasn't much of a problem.
