Mount Goethe via Lamarck Col and Darwin Canyon 08/04/2020- 08/06/2020
3-day backpack. Day 1: North Lake to Lake 11623 in Darwin Canyon (8 miles with 4,000' gain). Day 2: Lake 11623 to Mount Geothe and back (just under 8 miles with 2,900' gain). Day 3: Back out from Lake 11623 (just under 8 miles with with 1,600'gain). I just track the gain - the overall loss will be about the same as the gain. Beautiful weather and each day got easier, which is the way I like it. I can imagine it is hell trying to stay on sandy slopes all the way to keep this a Class 1 climb. It is not so bad if you up it to a Class 2 climb to stay on more solid ground in some places. All and all it was an enjoyable slog but I am pretty amenable to a good slog.

Up above the ledges you just hike across and climb up the sandy and rocky slopes to the summit of Geothe. If it gets too loose just move to where it isn't so loose and keep climbing up.
